Functional Safety

I&E Systems has specialised in engineering functional safety systems for process safeguarding since its inception in 1991. We have a thorough understanding of IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 and we apply these standards in a simple and effective manner.

Virtually all major accident events in the process industries have been caused by multiple systematic failures. Disasters are invariably caused by failures in management and engineering rather than simply by failures of equipment. Effective functional safety management is absolutely essential in achieving safety.

I&E Systems is a world leader in the field of functional safety management. Many of the safety systems suppliers have certification for functional safety management, but I&E Systems is the first engineering consultancy in the world to achieve TÜV Rheinland FSM certification for functional safety management in safety related systems integration.

I&E Systems is accredited as a course provider for TÜV Rheinland FS Engineer certification. This makes it easy for us to ensure that all of our personnel have the training appropriate to their roles.

I&E Systems applies a formal Competency Based Assessment system using the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s ‘Competence Criteria for Safety-related System Practitioners’. This system ensures that all personnel have the necessary practical skills and abilities as well as the training.
